Main Stars: Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, Frances O'Connor, William Hurt
Synopsis: Sometime in the future, the polar ice caps have melted, sinking many coastal cities. Therefore, all the governments of the world have had to enforce population laws, issuing few, if any, licesnses for couples to have childern. Because of that, mechas (robots) have become necessary replacement. Hurt plays the genious scientist who runs a robotics company that specializes in manufacturing human-replacement Mechas. His latest model robot is a child, one that can love unconditionally - a replacement child for those who cannot get birthing licenses. David (Osment) is the first of these mechas, and he's given to a couple who's son has been in a coma for several years. After awhile, though, he becomes attached to his 'mother', Monica (O'Conner). But circumstances lead to Monica having to dump him in the woods so that he won't be destroyed. Now he's on his own, trying to find the Blue Fairy, who he hopes will make him human so that Monica will love him. It is a journey that will show him all walks of life, and take him into the far distant future.
The Good: The effects are amazing. None better.
The Bad: The ending is way too fairy-tale-ish, but I think that's how it was meant to be.
